SPIE is an international society advancing an interdisciplinary approach to the science and application of light and the largest international provider of scientific knowledge in optics, photonics, and imagin.g. Since 1955, SPIE has also been a not-for-profit publisher offering a variety of publications, ranging from traditional printed materials to online and electronic resources.

They publish journals, books, conference proceedings and special collections in a variety of formats that will appeal to researchers and students that work in a wide variety of fields that utilize some aspect of optics and photonics

The SPIE Digital Library is the most extensive resource available on optics and photonics, electronic imaging and remote sensing, providing unprecedented access to more than 295,000 articles from SPIE Journals and Conference Proceedings from 1990 to the present.

The SPIE Digital Library includes 17,000 new additions per year, 35,000 papers cited in 20,000 high-technology patents, nine refereed SPIE Journals in applied remote sensing, nanophotonics, biomedical optics, optical engineering, electronic imaging and micro/nanolithography and 500 refereed articles from SPIE's nine journals are added annually. The prestigious Proceedings of the SPIE contain over 6000 conference volumes with 350 to 400 new volumes added annually.
